Director Sales/Business Development

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly driven Sales/Business Development team member with a career history of growing new technology based business pipelines through quantifying the need and value of new technology across the supply chain and creating strategic partnerships among the value chain participants. Leveraging industry leading advanced self-healing materials technology, we are looking for an individual who can drive business growth within our focus markets of coatings, adhesives and composites and expand our reach beyond current smart materials advocates.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Identify key market needs for self-healing technology
  • Understand key players (customers, customer’s customers, influence makers, competitors, etc.) in new target markets and how decisions are made
  • Engage directly in the market place, establishing relationships with key industry players (e.g., Experts/Consultants, Key Customer Technical or Marketing Teams, Trade Associations, Downstream Value Chain Stakeholders)
  • Develop and manage partnerships with prospective customers and their customers leading to product qualification/ specification
  • Research and validate challenges to new technology market entry and develop relevant value propositions to achieve market penetration

Qualifications and Skills

  • Deep understanding of materials market dynamics/industry knowledge
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for driving growth and value creation
  • Experience selling high-end products on performance value
  • Experience in new product launches and/or identifying new market needs is a plus
  • Able to get results by working independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication 8+ years’ coatings, adhesives or composites industry experience preferably in a combination of roles (technical, sales, marketing and product management)
  • Experience working with customers’ multi-level decisionmakers including R&D, Engineering, Commercial and Business Management
  • Knowledge of product qualification and job specification processes for heavy industrial maintenance applications
  • Home office based with National and International travel as required, 40 - 80%
  • BS/BA (minimum) in a scientific discipline or combination of science and business, chemistry/engineering a plus
