AMI participates in the Navy and Marine Corps Workshop on Aircraft Corrosion in California, Maryland - September 22 - 24, 2009
Dr. Gerald Wilson, Technology Platform Manager, represented AMI at this important, invitation only, event. The theme of the workshop: “The future in Combating Aircraft Corrosion – Innovative S & T Solutions,” focused on the development of an aviation corrosion prevention and control investment strategy for the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and Naval Air System Command (NAVAIR).
The Navy operates in some of the most challenging corrosive environments with Navy aircraft being exposed to high humidity, salts and acids, high loads and stresses and temperature extremes. These environmental challenges can have a large detrimental impact on aircraft performance, service life readiness and total cost of ownership. In fact, studies show that the annual cost of corrosion for Navy and Marine Corps aviation is nearing $3 Billion.
Dr. Wilson shared an overview of AMI technology and strategic capabilities and participated in breakout sessions where AMI’s innovative approach was discussed.
